The American subsidiary of Imagina, parent company of Mediapro, will have to pay 20 million euros in relation to the so-called FIFA Gate regarding alleged irregular payments made three years ago for the audiovisual and marketing rights of certain qualifying matches for the World Cup of football in the regions of Central America and the Caribbean.
Specifically, the group's North American subsidiary, US Imagina LLC – currently inactive – pleaded guilty to two crimes of electronic fraud conspiracy and will have to pay a Binance App Users Data fine of 10 million euros. In addition, it will have to pay another 5.4 million euros to the affected football federations, as well as another 4.3 million euros in return for the profits obtained thanks to irregular payments.
However, Imagina Media Audiovisual SL, based in Spain, has reached an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office of the Eastern District of New York so that it does not file charges against the parent company of Mediapro, which the FBI had accused in 2015 in a report of alleged bribery of senior executives in Latin American football.
Specifically, the Department of Justice revealed the Superseding Indictment in December 2015 as part of its investigation related to FIFA. Roger Huguet and Fabio Tordin, former executives of the company's US subsidiary, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, tax fraud and money laundering. In addition, according to the prosecution, another former senior company official could have allegedly been involved in the bribes.
As a result, the three employees were dismissed and removed from the management of the Imagina Group and all its subsidiaries in December 2015. As Mediapro's parent company now recalls, the extensive internal investigation carried out confirmed that "responsibility for conduct inappropriate was limited solely to the actions of these three people.
